Why did people start coming to australia?
People started coming to Australia during the gold rush era because a majority of people heard about the gold discovery in Australia, 1951. The gold discovery made many people come to Australia by choice, people came from many different countries such as England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, America, China and Germany.

During the gold rush most people that were living in the city left for the goldfields by horse and cart and but many walked.
In 1853 the news about the Australian gold rush reached China, China had been suffering from years of war and poverty. In order to raise money for the ticket to Australia, a man would've had to take a loan from a local trader. The mans wife and children stayed behind. To get to Melbourne it was a long journey of several months by ship in cramped conditions.
